Yellow Zimmermann dress

Recently I've been so busy working on starting my design studio CocoMingo studios with a friend of mine (which I will talk about more in another post). I wanted to post about one of my favourite dresses that I don't get to wear often.

When it comes to bright dresses, I usually have to incorporate black into them somehow to make it feel more comfortable. I love colour but I also really love wearing black, so my outfits usually have to consist of some black even if it were only the shoes.

I also really like mixing an edgy style with a feminine garment, so in this case I chose to pair up my yellow Zimmermann dress with a leather jacket I found at Topshop in Dubai a few years back. The mix of different materials and textures really makes an outfit stand out and feel more personal.

How to wear black on black

There's a reason black is so popular when it comes to clothing. You really can't go wrong with black whether it's pairing black with another colour or wearing black on its own. I often do that, where instead of a little black dress I create my own all-black outfit. In this case it's with a black skirt and one of my favourite black tops right now. Also 99% of the time I wear it with red lipstick to give it a bit of a classic touch.

There are a few ways you can wear an all-black outfit without looking like you're off to a funeral. you can choose to pair different textures or materials together. Or you could add a pop of colour through your shoes and/or bag or jewellery.

Yellow peplum

I know I'm a little late to wish you all a merry christmas and happy new year but I truly hope you had a great holiday and that 2014 has started on a good note. I am so grateful for all of my experiences throughout the year, as you might have seen some of the highlights on instagram including: traveling (Singapore, UK, France, Italy, Armenia, Dubai) meeting great people through the 7AL blog, being part of an interdisciplinary industry project through uni, and finishing up my masters degree. I have been, however, neglecting my blog quite a lot lately but I feel like I needed some time off after I finished my degree to do nothing for a change and updating a blog, as much fun as it is, takes a lot of effort and time. Spending the last 2 weeks with my family and friends here in Dubai has been just what I needed to rejuvenate after a very stressful and exhausting year. 

I really appreciate those who still keep checking my instagram and facebook page though and I will start back posting on the blog twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 am Melbourne timing).

In this outfit post I'm wearing a yellow peplum top I found in a boutique on Chapel Street that was sadly closing down. Although I'm sort of over the peplum trend I quite liked the elegant shoulder details this top had along with the mustard yellow colour which I've been obsessed with lately. I chose to play on the elegant vibe of the top and wear it with a plain black pencil skirt and my Guess black sandals I bought in galleries lafayette when I was in Paris a few months back. And the last detail to complete the outfit would have to be the red lipstick that looks great with anything yellow.

Daisy Rose

Once again I've managed to pull off a disappearing act as soon as end of semester submissions neared. I'm sure you're all sick of hearing me repeat the same excuse and say I'm sorry but the good news is, it was my last submissions EVER since I just successfully completed my masters degree! After 5 years of studying I can officially say I am done with the world of academia and I won't be forced into a blog hiatus for a while.

Now that you've forgiven me (since you're my favourite reader) let's move onto the post! I received this charming top and earrings from Rose, the owner of the online Daisy Rose boutique. This store has a few quirky pieces that you wouldn't normally find in your average online store which makes them quite unique.

Clash

I'm sure I have mentioned this before, but my idea of the perfect outfit is one which is versatile. And what is more versatile than a black and white dress? Classic, easy and effortless, this Wish Clash dress is just that. I love wearing this dress with sandals or with stalkings and high heeled boots, since the weather is still pretty chilly.

Basics: white converse & black

Lately I've been trying to collect basic pieces because I've realised I tend to impulse buy and end up wearing an item of clothing once, or sometimes never! So I'm loving my tops (like the black one below) and non- high heeled shoes, especially that I barely have a social life until I'm finished with my degree; everyday basics are crucial in my closet. 

I've been meaning to get white converse sneakers for a while now, to add to my collection of purple and black. Thanks to Surfstitch my converse collection is now complete (for now). The best part was I didn't even have to go out to buy it from the shops because they have free returns and super fast delivery.

Striped

How good is it that we are getting nice weather in Melbourne lately? The other day I spent a little (a lot of) time on asos looking for some basic pieces I can add to my wardrobe and I came across this striped shirt dress that looked really comfy and versatile, and this really nice black hat since I've been on the hunt for a nice black fedora. I paired it with one of my Seven Autumn Leaves pieces because I felt the striped print was the perfect backdrop that complimented the wooden colour beautifully.

How to wear a summer dress in winter

I thought it would be a nice change to post an outfit post before I move onto Rome travel diaries to break it up a little. I took these photos a few days ago before we got the lovely sunshine back and I wanted to showcase my new Elliatt baby blue dress and my Asos heels and sunnies that I still hadn't gotten a chance of wearing yet. I decided to wear all bright colours for a change since my everyday attire consists of a lot of dark coloured coats/tops with jeans which I wear to uni. And it's always nice to be able to wear your summer dresses in winter by just adding a coat on!

Denim dress

Denim’s back baby! To be frank I was never a big fan of denim, but maybe because I associated it way too much with the 90s denim style when my style consisted of pretty much what my mother would dress me up with. But recently I’ve been intrigued by the modern take on it and this trend has made a comeback in a big way. It started off with the chambray blouses last year and now the more denim you wear, the better. There are so many ways to incorporate denim in your outfits. You can even go all out and match denim with denim; you just have to know how to put them together based on shapes and shades. Gone are the days where denim on denim was considered a big faux-pax or as far as a fashion crime.

Ruby Red

I've never owned a red gown before, so upon putting this on I immediately felt like I was off to an event. Dressestylist.com customised the dress to my measurements which was great to have that option since long dresses almost never look good on me. I even got to pick the colour which was a great bonus!

Domain flowers bridal photoshoot part 2

As mentioned in part 1 of this post, Kyra from Pybus PR contacted me to be part of a photoshoot along with the talented John Deer, Cecylia Kee and Andrea Micich. The wonderful space of 1000 £ Bend was decorated with gorgeous flowers and beautiful props thanks to the talented ladies at Domain flowers and the set designers who helped creating those magical mini sets. It was a really fun experience and the photos turned out great and have been featured in a number of bridal websites and blogs. In the previous post I shared the gorgeous Pamela Usanto dress and the more modern take on bridal wear. This second instalment includes more traditional, but still stunning two dresses, by Karen Willis Holmes and the gorgeous Domain Flowers.
