Striped

How good is it that we are getting nice weather in Melbourne lately? The other day I spent a little (a lot of) time on asos looking for some basic pieces I can add to my wardrobe and I came across this striped shirt dress that looked really comfy and versatile, and this really nice black hat since I've been on the hunt for a nice black fedora. I paired it with one of my Seven Autumn Leaves pieces because I felt the striped print was the perfect backdrop that complimented the wooden colour beautifully.

Getting to know: Sam from Sambag

About a month ago I had the opportunity to visit the Sambag store in Chadstone and meet the designer behind the label. Sam Wagner was incredibly nice and inviting and it was really great to learn more about her, her label and the new collection in stores. She was nice enough to answer a few questions for me so you can also learn more about her and her brand!

Get to know Sam...

How did you get started in this industry, and why?

I have worked in the fashion industry since leaving school, and remain very passionate about it. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to have my own label. I started the Sambag with a small collection of handbags back in 1997 after a trip to New York. I love a good ballet flat, so it seemed a natural progression to expand into shoes. Ballet flats now represent 70% of our sales.

Could you describe to us what your brand encompasses?

A casual, elegant lifestyle.

Who is a Sambag customer?

She varies from 12 years old to 70. She is relaxed, and loves casual elegant fashion.

What is your creative process?

I always start with the fabric. I love texture – snakeskins, leathers and exotic materials. From here I look at embellishments, and the shoes and bags start to come to life.

Can you walk us through a typical day in your life?

I'm an early riser so I try and start my day off with a long walk, which helps clear my mind for a new day. Then I head back to home to get the girls ready for school. I religiously pick up my morning latte, which I savour on my way to the office. At 10:30am I sit down with the team to discuss the week in progress. I then spend all day in meetings. I try to be home no later than 6pm to spend time with my girls and cook dinner. After dinner I'm back on my computer tending to daily emails.

What has been some of your favourite moments or milestones in your Sambag journey?

Opening my first store in Woollahra. This was a really proud moment and it made my Sambag dream tangible. Expanding internationally to Hong Kong is also an important milestone.

Where do you see you brand in 5 years and in 10 years?

I would love to see the brand grow deeper into the Asian market, with several boutiques around the continent and an online presence in the Northern Hemisphere.

What advice would you give for someone starting out in this industry or starting out with their own business?

Work hard and stay true to your brand and yourself.

Travel diary: Rome part 1

I still have so many travel photos that I want to share so I will be posting 3 travel diary posts from Rome and then sharing Armenia photos, that I'm really excited to share with you all since it's where I'm from. I decided to pass by Rome on my way back from Europe to Dubai to meet up with a friend of mine who was traveling around Europe. We had a blast walking around this gorgeous Italian city that is full of history and amazing food! I loved visiting the squares, which is something Australia and other non-european countries really lack, and discovering the street artists and the amazing old fountains and architecture in them. I especially loved visiting the amazing Testervere next to the Tiber river where people gathered along the river to visit the markets, pubs and restaurants.

Wittner show at MSFW

It was really great to take a break from my uni life and attend the Wittner show at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week this past Tuesday. The show featured a mix of trends from the new Wittner collection that are already in store; a few of which I have my eyes on! It was also a highlight for me to meet the CEO of Wittner, Michael Wittner, before the show commenced and to catch up with the ever so lovely Miranda from The Style Gallivanter, as well as the inspiring duo Micah and Jesse from Raww at the after party.

Check out more photos from the show on Facebook.

Red.

So this is a completely random post and it's dedicated to my love for red lipstick. With my uni timetable being so full on (I've never had class every single day of the week in my 5 years at uni!) I barely have any time to take photos outside when the sun is out. So what is there for a blogger to do? Take photos indoors! I received a lovely package from Vivian Ashworth, when I first got back from my travels, that included so many lovely great quality products. And I have to say the item I used most, and I'm obsessed with, is her red lipstick called 'kingdom'. I decided to have a fun little shoot showcasing my love for red lippys!

PS. something you probably didn't know about me: I can't wink! haha. So that last photo is me 'attempting' to wink.
