Maxis with a twist

Maxi skirts are such a versatile piece of clothing in your closet because it can be worn in summer or winter and most of them can be transformed from casual to formal using a few key accessorizing techniques. And you know I love my transformer pieces in my wardrobe! It is a great way to save money and use that piece in multiple different way, creating new outfits and looks each time.

The following maxis, however, are not your typical maxis. I fell in love with these assymetric wrap skirts from Helmut Lang then upon my search on Shopbop.com I came across a few more that I quite liked. They are such staple pieces and would make any outfit simply not appear boring. I love drama in clothing and the fact that they are not symmetrical and unusual creates those dynamic shapes that would flatter any outfit be it casual or formal.

What do you think of them? And which one is your favourite?

Maling Road

Maling Road is a little strip of treasure just outside Canterbury station. To be honest, in the last four years that I’ve lived here I hadn’t even heard of it! But now that I have I can’t wait for my uni submissions to be over in the next few weeks so I can go back with my girlfriends, have some coffee and spend the afternoon exploring it further.

Kyra from Pybus PR had organized such a lovely day for us lucky bloggers. We met up at Theatre Place and got to meet some of the local store owners and hear a brief explanation of its history. One of the really interesting stories was about the new addition to the area, the Alley Cat café, who had saved some of its old charm by adding a bicycle as part of their décor that was exactly like the one the old owner used to park in front of the shop.

When we split up into groups to venture on our own and discover the area, I went to the Alley Cat to have some lunch with the Estelle La Mode girls Rachel and Esther, who was wearing one of my Seven Autumn Leaves necklaces! We were in for a treat as we all enjoyed what we had ordered after finding it difficult to decide on what to get since everything looked so good.

Just across from the café, we went into PerfectPieces Jewellery, looked around and enjoyed the variety the store had to offer. The owner told us about her story and how she fell in love with this place when she moved to Melbourne. She also showed us around the store and told us how important it was for her to support new Australian designers.

-->
While we were walking down the strip, the girls from Estelle la Mode said it reminded them of Stars hollow from Gilmore girls. I completely agree and the reason why, I think, is not just the way it looks that is a little similar but more because of the way it feels. It has a sense of community and tradition and it is just a perfect little destination to spend a nice day out.

I wish I could have stayed the entire day but I had to go to the races right after. I was still there in spirit, as I was looking at all the photos on Instagram that the other bloggers were posting and living vicariously through them. Thank you to Pybus PR, everyone from Maling Road and ofcourse my fellow bloggers who made it such an enjoyable morning even though I was only there for three hours.

There are a few special events on Maling Road worth checking out:
Thurs Nov 1st for a VIP Shopping Night
And Friday the 7th of Dec during the day for the Kriskindl Festival - which is one of Melbourne's longest running community festivals

I’ve heard they are a real treat!

Alley Cat cafe and  Perfect Pieces Jewellery are located in Theatre Place on Maling Road, outside Canterbury station.

Shopping Sunday: Rompers

Happy Sunday everyone! We have been blessed with lovely weather here in Melbourne for the past few days and it has gotten me lusting over summer clothing. Even though rompers are very summery, they also can be very versatile and trans-seasonal. Just add a denim jacket or cardigan if you're out and it gets a little chilly at night, or pair them up with heels and a clutch to go out on the town. The following rompers I picked from Shopbop.com are so different from one another be it length, sleeves, print or colour. I am personally loving the long jumpsuits which I've chosen from BCBGMAXAZRIA. Which is your favourite?

Shop new jumpsuits & rompers available online and newly discounted rompers available at Shopbop.com.

The V and S show

There is a new talk show on TV starting this week and I cannot wait to see these two lovely ladies on my screen. The co-hosts Victoria and Sasha have created a talk show describing it “A Show by girlfriends for girlfriends”.

They were nice enough to invite me to the filming of their 3rd episode in which they were wearing a Seven Autumn Leaves necklace and ring, which was pretty exciting. I had a blast spending the day on set with the lovely co-hosts and crew. It also happened to be Victoria’s birthday so there was cake too!

Check out the photos I took on the day and remember to tune in to digital 44 (Channel 31) this Tuesday the 23rd at 8 pm for the first episode of the V and S show and like their FB page for a special surprise in the coming few weeks!

Chadstone Fashion Stakes at Beck Guineas

Last Saturday, the Chadstone Fashion Stakes took place at the Beck Caulfield Guineas day at Caulfield racecourses. It was a treat to ditch my uni work and go to the races to witness some amazing fashion and so many incredible headpieces! I was accompanied by my friend Taela who wore a beautiful floral headpiece she had made herself that very morning. We found ourselves among some of Melbourne's leading icons in the fashion industry as judges, the hosts, the faces of Caulfield and ofcourse the super stylish contestants who made the day very enjoyable. The hosts, faces of Caulfield and most of the contestants were dressed in brands available at Chadstone - the Fashion Capital.

I was wearing: Zara dress / Bardot bag, Topshop heels, Forever new headpiece.

Step into spring with Topshop and Grazia

Two nights ago I attended the 'step into spring' held at Topshop with Grazia. We were treated to cocktails, pretty clothes, good music, wonderful people and a styling session by Grazia Editor Amy Molloy and Fashion Director David Bonney. They covered the rules of race wear for each of the racing events and shared their picks of what the ladies could wear and even the boyfriend's outfit that went along with each of the ensembles. And of course you can't go to the races without headpieces! Connie from K is for Kani had that covered, as she had her gorgeous floral headpieces beautifully displayed at the entrance. And If you spend $100 at Topshop on Chapel Street this weekend (the 13th and 14th) you can get one of her headpieces for free!

Check out the facebook album for this event for more photos.
